There is nothing in this blog that will cure EDS or other hypermobility syndromes. While there are many complementary and alternative (CAM) therapies that may help you lead a more comfortable and powerful life, there is no pill, no herb and no therapy that will fix once and for all this often painful and disabling set of conditions.

If you are looking for a one and done pill, you will not find it here.

As you probably know, EDS happens when your body does not make collagen well. Since collagen connects your bones, skin and organs together, it can cause some real issues. Some of us have been very afflicted by hypermobility disorders and suffer a lot. Others are barely aware of the issue. All of us have received treatments from a variety of health professionals or coaches that may have made it worse. Most of us have been told it is all in our heads and there is nothing really wrong, implying we are crazy.

I have been there.

Last year my daughter was finally diagnosed. It explains her frightening spells of illness that lasted months. It explains why I have frozen ankles from the many times in high school when I literally fell off my own ankles! It explains why my niece can do those weird things with her shoulders and why my sisters and I have joint injuries. In each of us it shows up differently, but I would guess we are all affected.

I have just become a master herbalist so I am newish to using herbs, but also work with a community of herbalists who know a lot and who have reviewed this information as part of my master’s thesis. The purpose of this blog is to offer ideas and information on how to live better with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) and Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders (HSD) and about how various herbal and other CAM therapies may be able to help you lead a stronger, less painful and more powerful life.

This information is not intended to take the place of personalized medical counseling, diagnosis and/or treatment by a trained physician. Herbs and other botanicals are presently classified by the Food and Drug Administration as foods, not as medicines. And, most importantly, EDS and other hypermobility disorders are personal – no two people seem to be affected in the same ways. Each of us, if we want to feel better, need to read, become informed and be willing to try things.
